South Korean Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok will meet with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in Washington during a visit for the Group of 20 (G20) finance ministers’ meeting and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spring Meetings, Seoul’s finance ministry said on April 16.
The U.S. Treasury proposed the meeting, with both sides currently coordinating the schedule and participants, the ministry said.
Talks are expected to cover tariff-related matters, as Bessent holds a key role in shaping U.S. trade policy.
Washington recently named five close allies — the United Kingdom, Australia, South Korea, Japan and India — as priority partners for trade negotiations, kicking off its first ministerial-level talks with Japan on April 16.
South Korean Trade Minister Ahn Duk-geun will also travel to the United States for separate negotiations on tariff adjustments. Seoul is additionally coordinating a visit to South Korea by U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, the ministry added.
