Today, HRH Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk, the Emir of Daura, will conduct the investiture ceremony for the new Sadaukin Kasar Hausa, Hon Hamza Suleiman, Fnes, Df-Aiwmes, Df-Aihsra.

The individual being celebrated hails from Faskari Local Government Area within Katsina State.

Hamza was born into the esteemed, scholarly, modest, and empathetic household of Alhaji Sulen-Sule Faskari (may he rest in peace)—a distinguished, devout, prosperous agricultural businessman, innovator, statesman, and benefactor—and Hajiya Ruqayya (may she rest in peace), an exemplary, virtuous lady. From a young age, Hamza embarked on his spiritual journey by studying the Holy Quran.

In 2004, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the esteemed Bayero University, Kano, followed by a Master’s in Public Policy and Administration from the same institution in 2008. Driven by his passion for learning, Hamza further acquired an intensive certificate in computer studies at the Centre for Information Technology at Bayero University, Kano in 2004. Additionally, he completed a diploma in Computer Studies through Government College, Kaduna Cyber Cafe and Computer Training Center in the same year.

In 2009, Hamza Suleiman Faskari entered the Federal Civil Service as an administrator overseeing the Southeast region for the State Coordination Department within the Federal Character Commission. Later, in 2011, he took up a position as a special assistant to Senator Abu Ibrahim, who served as the Deputy Minority Whip in the Senate, working from the National Assembly premises in Abuja.

Hamza Suleiman’s name echoes loudly throughout the whole Funtua senatorial district because of his dedication and efforts in establishing numerous political groups, as well as promoting and safeguarding the principles of the All Progressives Congress (APC) both regionally and nationwide. He has built an extensive web of political partners, colleagues, and acquaintances spanning all of Katsina State and the North-West geopolitical area.

In acknowledgment of his scholarly ingenuity, dedication to community service, and significant roles at both local government and higher administrative tiers including federal positions, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari (CFR) designated Hon. Hamza Suleiman Faskari as commissioner for the Ministry of Environment in Katsina State back in 2015. His exceptional work during his initial tenure led to his subsequent re-appointment and redeployment to the same role within the same ministry in 2019.

Since its inception in 2011 until 2015, the ministry received an annual allocation of N400 million, but typically only about 60% of this amount was actually disbursed. During his initial tenure as governor, Faskari revamped the Ministry of Environment, enhancing both the breadth and depth of its operations. Under his leadership, a swift evaluation of statewide environmental issues was conducted; appropriate mitigation and adaptation methods were pinpointed; these solutions were categorized into immediate, intermediate, and long-range actions; and governmental endorsement for their execution was secured. As a result of these efforts, funding dedicated to the environment surged dramatically from more than N800 million in 2016 to upwards of N30 billion by 2023, accompanied by consistent yearly disbursements exceeding 80%.

In his role as a commissioner under Bello Masari’s administration, Hamza Suleiman helped oversee more than 300 intervention initiatives throughout Katsina State. These efforts were carried out via the state ecological fund and in partnership with the World Bank through programs such as NEWMAP—the Nigerian Erosion and Watershed Management Project—RAAMP—the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project—and ACReSAL—the Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes project.

These initiatives led to the rejuvenation of certain degraded lands, as well as the building of roads, sidewalks, water conservation facilities, drainage systems, and various erosion prevention projects throughout all of Katsina State.

These initiatives have notably mitigated the seasonal flooding previously faced by numerous communities throughout the state, thus protecting lives, assets, and ways of living.

When Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON began his tenure as head of the government in 2023, Suleiman was reinstated as commissioner and assigned to the Ministry of Water Resources. Later, in July 2024, he was reassigned to the Ministry of Environment due to the ongoing initiatives he had previously spearheaded. Consequently, he has become the most enduring commissioner for the environment since this department was established within Katsina State.

He excels as an accomplished administrator, politician, entrepreneur, and humanitarian. His charitable efforts span multiple domains such as healthcare, water provision, skill development, education, and matters related to tradition and religion, among numerous other areas.

In the healthcare domain, he has made significant contributions such as restoring buildings, supplying machinery, setting up clinics, providing transport, and delivering medications at various centers including the Faskari Maternal and Child Health Center, Kanon Haki Clinic, Nasarawa Clinic, and Bele Health Clinics located in the Faskari Local Government Area. Additionally, he has facilitated numerous community health initiatives, funded surgical procedures, and offered medical assistance to more than 800 individuals facing health challenges throughout Faskari and Sabuwa local government regions and beyond the state borders.

Suleiman regularly assists with the supply, oversight, repair, enhancement, and upkeep of water infrastructure in the local government areas of Faskari and Sabuwa.

The initiatives he offers focus on various groups including families, friends, political allies, young people, and women. He provides vehicles to his friends and political connections. Additionally, every quarter, he equips the younger generation and women with essential skills, trades, and resources to enhance their ability to sustain themselves economically. Furthermore, each month, financial aid is granted to more than 100 community organizations within the Funtua senatorial area as well as other regions of the state, aimed at strengthening local economies. This program has been ongoing since 2013 up until now.

The accomplishments and current initiatives within the educational sphere encompass regular distribution of learning and teaching resources for both primary and secondary schools throughout Faskari and Sabuwa local government regions. Over 100 scholars statewide have been supported through their studies up to graduation under his sponsorship. Currently, more than 40 learners receive financial backing from him as they pursue higher education. Since 2011, continuous assistance with project stipends has been offered to final-year college students hailing from Faskari and Sabuwa local governments. Additionally, Representative Suleiman has funded and expedited the creation of WAEC exam centers at Government Day Secondary Schools located in Yar Nasarawa and Bilbis.

In the realm of religion/tradition, Suleiman consistently supports his family, friends, and acquaintances each year by funding their pilgrimages. He also undertakes the rehabilitation and building of Jumu’ah mosques and aids in constructing and improving numerous mosques and Islamic schools both inside and outside the region. Annually, he offers aid to orphans, orphanages, and mosque orphan committees. Throughout the month of Ramadan, he distributes relief materials throughout the Funtua area and further afield. Additionally, he gives monetary contributions and supplies to traditional and religious figures during festivals and equips these leaders with vehicles and motorcycles for easier dissemination of teachings and proselytizing efforts spanning the Funtua vicinity and beyond. This pattern of support began in 2012 and continues up until now.

His continuous dedication to community work, coupled with significant charitable accomplishments and strong leadership skills, led to him receiving the hereditary title once held by his deceased father. He was crowned as the Wamban Faskari in Faskari district of Katsina State back in 2019. Most recently, he received another honor when the Emir of Daura bestowed upon him the prestigious title of Sadaukin Kasar Hausa.
