An

Actor, writer, and filmmaker Temilolu Fosudo asserts that theater practice has instilled in him a strong sense of discipline.

During an interview with

Sunday Scoop,

He mentioned that his Theater Arts education from the University of Ibadan shaped his techniques in acting, screenwriting, and film production. He explained, “Being an actor, my theater experience has honed my ability to improvise. When performing live on stage with the curtain open, once you start, there’s no stopping or redoing scenes; everything happens spontaneously. It forces you to react instantaneously to unforeseen circumstances, which enhances your reflexes and brings authenticity and depth to your performances.”

“Theatre offers another benefit through the rehearsal process. By spending time analyzing the script with the director and co-actors, you learn to thoroughly investigate your character’s background and motivations. Additionally, theatre honed my stage presence, teaching me how to utilize my voice and physicality effectively to capture audience attention. Discipline was another key lesson: punctuality, patience, and attentiveness to peers’ contributions became essential. The collaborative aspect was particularly valuable too. In live performances, various creative components like set design, lighting, sound, and acting must seamlessly integrate, emphasizing the importance of teamwork.”

The director mentioned that his upcoming works—titled “The Benefactor” and “Omo Boy”—examine issues like sexual abuse, corruption, misuse of authority, and the intricacies of forgiveness. They also delve into the perils of tribalism and prejudice, all while touching upon themes of love, friendship, and the concept of selected kinship.

“I’m especially excited that my spouse, Wumi Tuase-Fosudo, will be starring in ‘Omo Boy.’ I think this project is destined for the silver screen, and I am eagerly anticipating seeing her brilliance,” he mentioned additionally.

Talking about his connection with his dad and esteemed actor, Sola Fosudo, Temilolu stated, “Dad remains the biggest inspiration for me professionally. Even though my whole clan has been tremendously encouraging, his role is distinctly significant.”

As a child, he exposed us to the realm of narrative artistry. During vacations, we would visit the movie theater and attend live performances with him. I recall him encouraging us to list our desired films, after which he would purchase the DVDs for us. He ensured that we developed an appreciation for storytelling across various mediums.
