LAUTECH Graduates 94 Students With First Class Honours As It Marks 35th Anniversary

: The Vice Chancellor of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso, Prof. Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu, on Tuesday disclosed that no fewer than 94 Students of the institution will be graduating with the first-class Honours at the 17th convocation event that also coincides with the 35th founder’s day anniversary ceremony of the University.

The Vice Chancellor, in his address while briefing journalists at the University’s Senate Building, noted that a grand total of 11,528 graduands are graduating out of this number 94 graduands are in the first class division, while 2,086 graduands are graduating with second class upper division, 3,494 are in the second class lower division, 756 graduands are in third class division, and 12 in ordinary pass.

Out of the total 11,528 graduands, 8,102 graduands will be admitted to the bachelor’s degrees. In the Nursing science, 7 are in distinction category, 1,741 are in the upper credit and 145 are in lower credit, as for medicine and surgery there are 133 in the pass category which indicates a satisfactory level of success in the discipline, unlike in non- medical disciplines.

Highlights of the 17th convocation event according to the Vice Chancellor includetree planting, research fair and exhibition, the convocation play and cultural performance slated for April 16, convocation lecture and alumni day are scheduled for April 17, followed by Jumat Service and Church Service scheduled for April 18, and 20 respectively, award of first degrees and prizes is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, while Wednesday 23, 2025 is for the award of postgraduate diplomas, and higher degrees.

Speaking on the achievements, vision and challenges of the University, Prof. Kalilu said, “all our academic programmes are duly accredited by theNational Universities Commission and relevant professional bodies, our six new regular academic programmes namely Theatre Arts, Psychology,assignment Communication, Linguistics, Yoruba and Political Science scales through the resource verification of the National Commission and have become fully operational.

“Similarly the five new additions to the undergraduate programmes in the Open and Distance Learning namely; Cyber Security Science, Science laboratory technology, transport management, crop production and Soil Science, and environmental protection have equally become operationalised.

“The University continues to internationalise its operations in research, staff and students exchange, it has entered into collaboration with similar institutions across the world, among such as University of Kentucky, University of Utah, USA, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and Bayer Foundation of Germany that established the Humboldt Research Hub, center for Emerging and Re-emerging infectious Diseases in the University among several others.

“It is noteworthy that the University’s rating d ranking has been on continuous ascent since 2023, in 2025, in the Times Higher Education’s World University Ranking, gt retains it’s position as the best state University in Nigeria, in a similar development, the 2025 interdisciplinary Science Ranking (ISR), which assessed University’s contributions to and engagement with interdisciplinary science, ranked LAUTECH second position nationally and within the 251-300 bracket globally.

“Our vision is to be among the top 100 universities globally, this is a tall ambition, but it is possible, in the face of this vision and the ever growing student enrolment, it is imperative that we improve our infrastructure, introduce more technologies into our pedagogy and research systems, and internalise our staff and students mix among other important and urgent steps required, we therefore appeal to various stakeholders to support the LAUTECH project.” Prof. Kalilu said.
