The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project has pledged increased assistance for the youth and residents of Ogoniland within Rivers State.
The HYPREP Project Coordinator, Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey, stated this while handing over 100 Ogoni youths for creative arts training to the University of Port Harcourt.
Zabbey mentioned that this program, which was part of HYPREP’s initiative for community support, was carried out alongside ‘Halibez Consult Limited’ and the University of Port Harcourt’s Institute of Arts and Culture.
Represented by the Director, Technical Services of HYPREP, Prof. Damian-Paul Aguiyi, he said the effort was one of the four specialised skills in its sustainable livelihood programme aimed at empowering Ogoni youths with skills opportunities for sustainable economic development.
The head of HYPREP said, “When we mention our aim for top-tier skill development, we genuinely mean it. Today serves as evidence of one such promise fulfilled.”
We set aside some time to seek after skills that would bring added value. Regarding ourselves as Nigerians, we refer to our film industry as Nollywood. We comprehend how Hollywood operates; similarly, India has Bollywood. Within Nigeria itself, there’s also something akin to Kano-wood, primarily representing the filmmaking scene from the north.
“So, we talked to ourselves; why don’t we have an Ogoni-wood? That is exactly what we want to do today. In doing so, we gave a contract to an established organisation, Halibez Consult Limited.”
