New partnership to boost global presence of Moroccan handicrafts

Morocco’s government signed a partnership agreement Thursday to promote traditional handicrafts in international markets. The deal, involving the State Secretariat for Handicrafts and the Economy of Solidarity, Maison de l’Artisan, and the Secretariat for Foreign Trade, aims to support artisans in exporting their products and increasing sector revenues.

Backed by a budget of 30 million dirhams, the initiative focuses on training, administrative simplification, and digital marketing tools to strengthen the global reach of Moroccan craftsmanship.

Platforms like TIJARA, powered by AI, and Trade.ma will help artisans access market data and online sales channels.

State Secretary Lahcen Saadi emphasized the importance of expanding exports, which currently stand at 1.1 billion dirhams, especially to key markets like the U.S.—the top importer of Moroccan zellige tiles.

The agreement also aims to improve product quality, align with international standards, and economically empower the 2.6 million Moroccans working in the handicrafts sector.
