NSFAF Set to Rejoin Education Ministry by October – International Edition

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has stated that the Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) will be reincorporated into the Ministry of Education by October.

These measures are part of the government’s initiatives to reduce expenses and enhance services for students receiving benefits.

During her first state of the nation address (Sona) on Thursday, the president revealed this news, highlighting that the initiative is designed to improve operational coherence and boost effectiveness within the student financial aid framework.

“To achieve cost savings and maximize benefits for students, the NSFAF will be reincorporated into the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture by October 2025,” she stated.

This reintroduction adheres to a Cabinet instruction from 2021, suggesting that the fund should return to the direct oversight of the ministry.

Founded in 1997, the NSFAF was established with the aim of offering financial support to Namibian students seeking higher education.

In recent times, though, the organization has encountered growing difficulties, especially when it comes to reclaiming issued loans.

The organization disclosed last year that it had set aside N$17 billion for students from 2013 to 2024.

Even with this significant financial commitment, the fund has had difficulty recouping loans from recipients, which raises questions about its viability over time.
