A speech by Butere Girls’ High School alumnus and the first lady of Kenya Mama Rachel Ruto has emerged.

This comes amidst the dispute between the government and Cleophas Malal over his play Echoes of War, which was performed by Butere Girls up to the national level.

However, after they denied a conducive environment to perform the play and walked off the stage, several things emerged, with one being Rachel Ruto’s close relationship with the school.

Rachel Ruto’s speech at Butere Girls

A speech by Mama Rachel at the school during the launch of the Jitume Digital Hub in June 2024 has emerged following the controversy.

In her speech, the first lady praised the Jitume program for connecting over 28,000 users and enrolling around 8,700 courses.

She said the implementation would spur a wave of digital jobs across the nation, providing students with skills to prepare them for a digital Kenya that students will encounter after their studies.

Rachel noted the hub would also spare parents the cost it takes to take their students for computer courses after school and urged people to take advantage of it.

The Butere Girls alumnus also noted that the hub captures the seriousness of digitization under the digital and creative economy pillar.

She said the government would establish internet hotspots to serve innovators, film production, and offer public access to government services.

“We will need to be agile enough to ensure we take advantage of the emerging opportunities. We now live in the era of generative artificial intelligence where technology enables our work and spurs efficiency, we need to be ready for this new era,” she said.

Malala vows to have Echoes of War on screens

Earlier, Jagoanblog.art.co.ke reported that Cleophas Malala, the Echoes of War scriptwriter, ensured to have the play on TV screens.

Speaking after being released from custody following his arrest in connection with the play, the politician said he is focused on ensuring the play goes before a Kenyan audience.

Malala vowed to pick some of the best actors in the country to ensure that the play is watched by many Kenyans after the hostility it faced in the hands of the government.

The former senator also praised journalists for their courage on the night he was arrested.
